For 2 years I searched for a decent wifi set for my shop computer. My shop computer is located about 150′ from my router in my house. My house and shop both are cinder block and brick. Needless to say radio reception of this type was not going to be easy with standard equipment. I could barely pick up the router with the standard factory receiver on one of my laptops. And the signal was always dropping. My shop computer is located in a small room about 30′ from where I tried my laptops. Inside that room I could not get a signal at all! First of all I have a G router and I thought if I upgraded to an N router I would have better wifi coverage. At lease that is what the unit was advertised to do. And the sales guy said it would make a difference. After installing the new N router nothing changed. I could not tell the difference between the two. Still no reception in my shop computer room. I then tried a stand alone G Power Booster Repeater. This unit was $99 at a local store and worked great, except I could not lock my shop computer into my network because of the link it created. It was struck by lightening I guess and quit working soon thereafter. Not wanting to go that route again I began looking for more powerful wifi adaptors.
